Understanding your child’s literacy profile is an important first step in identifying areas of strength, areas requiring support and appropriate next steps.

Pathway Literacy offers two levels of educational literacy assessment depending on the needs of your child and family.

Literacy Assessment & Consultation

For families who have concerns about their child’s reading, spelling or early literacy development and would like a clearer understanding of their current skills and areas of need.

Assessment is individually selected according to your child’s age, stage of learning and presenting concerns and may explore phonological and phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, reading fluency, comprehension and written expression.

Following the assessment, results are analysed and discussed with you, with clear recommendations for next steps. A brief written summary of findings and recommendations is included.

Comprehensive Literacy Assessment & Educational Report

For families requiring more extensive assessment and a detailed understanding of their child’s literacy profile.

Assessment is individually selected and may explore a broader range of literacy skills. Results are carefully analysed to identify your child’s strengths, areas of difficulty and priorities for support.

A comprehensive written educational report is provided, outlining assessment findings, interpretation of results, recommendations and suggested next steps. A parent feedback consultation is also included.

A comprehensive assessment may be particularly helpful when families would like detailed written documentation to share with their child’s school or other professionals, or require a more in depth understanding of their child’s literacy needs.

Pathway Literacy provides educational literacy assessment rather than clinical diagnosis. Where appropriate, further assessment or referral may be recommended.

Individual intervention is designed around your child’s assessed needs and may focus on reading, spelling and written expression.

Teaching is explicit, systematic and evidence-based, with skills introduced in a carefully sequenced way and practised until they become increasingly secure.

Instruction is adjusted over time in response to your child’s progress, rather than following a one-size-fits-all program.

Your child’s progress is monitored throughout intervention to ensure teaching remains targeted, responsive and appropriately challenging.

Ongoing assessment is built into regular sessions to monitor skill development, identify areas requiring further support and determine when your child is ready to move forward. Teaching is adjusted in response to progress and emerging needs.

Parents are regularly kept informed about areas of focus and progress, including skills being developed and priorities for ongoing intervention.

Where appropriate, collaboration with your child’s classroom teacher or other professionals can help develop a shared understanding of their literacy needs and support consistency across intervention, home and school.

Alongside regular literacy assessment and intervention, Pathway Literacy offers additional programs designed to support children at different stages of their literacy development.

Holiday Literacy Intensives

Holiday Literacy Intensives provide an opportunity for children to receive focused, targeted literacy support during the school holidays.

Each intensive is individually planned according to your child’s current skills and learning needs and may focus on reading, spelling and/or writing. The concentrated format allows for repeated practice and consolidation of important skills over a shorter period.

For existing Pathway Literacy students, programs are informed by current assessment and progress information. New students complete an initial literacy screening to identify appropriate teaching priorities.

Holiday Intensives are offered during selected school holiday periods, with limited places available.

School Ready Literacy

School Ready Literacy sessions are designed for children preparing to begin Kindergarten and focus on developing the foundational literacy skills that support early reading and writing.

Through engaging, age appropriate activities, children develop skills in areas such as phonological awareness, letter and sound knowledge, oral language and emerging reading and writing.

Sessions are tailored to your child’s current skills and are designed to build confidence, curiosity and positive early experiences with literacy.

The aim is not to push children ahead of the Kindergarten curriculum, but to provide strong foundations for the literacy learning that lies ahead.
